Wooden Blooks
Blooks have had quite a year, beginning with Mindell Dubansky’s exhibit at the Grolier Club and her illustrated catalogue, Blooks: The Art of Books That Aren’t. Which is why these hand-painted wooden block books created by New York City—based author and illustrator Leanne Shapton made our list of on-trend gifts for 2016. Featuring unique lettering and fresh designs, these art objects are merely masquerading as books, but they are pleasing nonetheless. Sold exclusively at John Derian Company in New York City, Type Books in Toronto, Shakespeare & Co. in Paris, and Lutyens & Rubinstein in London. $425

Romeo & Julienne
Shopping for a cookbook collector or a book lover with epicurean tendencies? Look no further than this shelve-able“Romeo & Julienne” cutting board. Designed by the Paris-based Atypyk and built to resemble a hardbound book, the Romeo & Julienne beechwood cutting board makes slicing those carrots into skinny little strips—or, perhaps, cut into little stars? (Act III, Scene II)—a touch more enjoyable. A bookish, if kitschy, addition to the kitchen. $16

Dorothy Parker Gin
Algonquin Round Table wit Dorothy Parker had a bit of a reputation where martinis were concerned, so it’s no surprise that the Brooklyn-based New York Distilling Company has tapped this lore and created Dorothy Parker American Gin. A smooth spirit with a blend of juniper, elderberries, citrus, cinnamon, and hibiscus—bathtub gin, this is not—it makes a superb gift for a literary-minded friend or cocktail party host. Pairs well with tonic and a first edition of Parker’s first volume of poetry, Enough Rope. $39.99

Handmade Mini Globe
A library really isn’t complete without a resident globe, but if desk space is an issue, try this one on for size: a miniature globe from London’s Bellerby & Co. Globemakers. The“standard” model is available in four finishes, from turquoise to ochre, and each globe is painted and glossed by hand. The base is black walnut, and an inscribed copper plaque indicating edition number and style will be placed there. Larger and bespoke models are also available; those in London can see Bellerby globes in person at Harrod’s department stores. The rest of us must observe from afar. Measures 22.9 cm; weighs 3 kilograms, or about 6.6 pounds. £1,099/$1,443

Olivetti Notecards
We all know the vintage typewriter has made a comeback—there are type-ins, typewriter rodeos, and typewriter apps. Some might label it nostalgia, but there’s no denying the high style of the Italian typewriter manufacturer Olivetti. (Even MoMA agrees.) This pack of twelve notecards pays homage to Olivetti, showing four distinctive patterns of red and black type created by the company’s Lettera 32, a model famously favored by Cormac McCarthy. Sleek and understated, these“blank,” all-occasion cards are perfect for hipsters and antiquarians alike. $15.95
