NYC Rare Book Week
The New York City Book & Ephemera Fair
Making Rare Book Week bigger and better is the “Uptown Satellite Show,” featuring sixty dealers. Scheduled this year for Friday, March 10, with extended hours from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., the NYC Book & Ephemera Fair will be located at Wallace Hall at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 980 Park Avenue (between 83rd-84th Streets). Free round trip shuttle bus service between Wallace Hall and the Armory will run continuously from 7:45 a.m. – 6:45 p.m. Admission: $15 for adults, $8 for youths aged 12-21. Get ready to tango: Brooklyn’s Lizz Young will have on hand this bright, lovely copy of Venga Champan, printed in 1926 and featuring the artwork of French poster designer Robert Valerio. Price: $100.
Fair goers will surely appreciate the work of bookbinders and book restorers Jack and Taff Fitterer of Indian Lake, New York. Seen here is a unique, full leather binding by Jack of White Tulips by the poet Ronald Baatz, hand-press printed by Leonard Seastone at The Tideline Press, 2003, in an addition of thirty copies. Price: $2,200.
British bookseller Jonathan Kearns will showcase this inscribed copy of The Yellow Wallpaper (1901). Though a second edition, the book is rare, and according to the bookseller, “copies signed or inscribed enter a whole new realm of rare which verges on purely theoretical.” Price: £15,000 ($18,750).
The Mackus Company of Springfield, Illinois, will exhibit this exquisite manuscript leaf depicting St. Augustine from the Llangattock Breviary, in Latin, Ferrara, c. 1450. Price: $14,500.
