Saint Jane & Friends
From the eccentric workshop of Brooklyn's Unemployed Philosopher's Guild come these 'Secular Saints' candles depicting a bibliophile's holiest of holies: authors. From Austen to Vonnegut, Baldwin to Woolf, "Secular Saints candles are dedicated to cultural icons you can believe in. The front of each candle features the saint's image. The back of the candle shows their patronage, saint's day, and a unique prayer to inspire and enlighten." A practical gift, with bookish flair. Measures 2.25" x 8.5." $12.95 each

To the Point
Russian artist Salavat Fidai's work is truly amazing, particularly for the pencil enthusiasts out there. Wielding an X-Acto knife, he takes a graphite pencil and carves an intricate miniature figure where the point should be: a book, a chair, an eagle, the Freedom Tower, a character from Game of Thrones—you name it, he has done it. "The technology is very simple," he told the Wall Street Journal earlier this year. "I take a pencil and remove the extra." Fidai will make mini sculptures to order, and he suggests a bell jar or shadowbox frame for displaying the final product. He has collected his best pieces in an illustrated book called The Pencilbook, also available for purchase, signed or inscribed. $800 and up + shipping
