NYC Rare Book Week

The New York City Book & Ephemera Fair

Making Rare Book Week bigger and better is the “Uptown Satellite Show,” featuring sixty dealers. Held on Saturday, April 9, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., the NYC Book & Ephemera Fair will be located at Wallace Hall at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 980 Park Avenue (between 83rd-84th Streets). Free round trip shuttle bus service between Wallace Hall and the Armory will run continuously from 7:45 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission: $15 for adults, $7 for youths aged 12-21. If you’re wild for Wilde, London’s Paul Foster Books will have something for you: a “bright, clean, and tight” first English edition of Salome (1894), illustrated with ten fine full-page plates, decorative title page, and tail piece illustration by Aubrey Beardsley. Different Drummer Books of Niantic, Connecticut, will bring a lovely Limited Editions Club edition of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, illustrated with fifteen lithographs by the artist Balthus and limited to three hundred numbered copies signed by the illustrator. Here’s a diminutive darling from First Folio of Paris, Tennessee: a miniature book (2 1/8" x 1 7/8") of the Poetical Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson, printed in London c. 1900 and bound in black leather, the upper cover mounted in hallmarked silver with an embossed image of the author. Peter Austern & Co. of Brooklyn, New York, will exhibit a 1938 letter addressed to Heinrich Himmler, signed by Karl Jung, and bearing the stamp of the SS main office. The letter is housed in a decorative cloth and leather clamshell case. Price: $1,500. biblio.com/brooklyn-books-brooklyn
