The New York City Book & Ephemera Fair
Now in its fourth “edition,” this Rare Book Week “Satellite fair” on Saturday, March 10, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., will showcase the wares of sixty antiquarian book, manuscript, and ephemera dealers. It's located in a different venue this year at the Sheraton Central Park/Times Square, 811 7th Avenue. Free round-trip shuttle bus service to the Armory will run all day. A first UK edition of The Outsider (1946) by Albert Camus seems a perfect highlight from the Left Bank Books, recently relaunched by Erik DuRon and Jess Kuronen. The dust jacket, designed by prolific British illustrator Edward Bawden, is unclipped, and the book is near fine. Price: $1,800.
New Jersey’s Chatham Bookseller will be offering this first edition of The Sound and the Fury (Jonathan Cape, 1929) in black-and-white patterned boards. The unclipped pictorial dust jacket, though worn, is an original first issue jacket. Price: $6,000.
Langdon Manor Books of Houston, Texas, specialists in American social movements, American personal narratives, photo albums and outsider books, will be showcasing this evocative spiral-bound photo album depicting the Van Eeden settlement, a farming colony in North Carolina for Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany. The photos were taken by Ruth Staudinger-Rozaffy. Price: $12,500.
In addition to a very rare 1835 Arabic language atlas of the world published in Malta, Original Antique Maps of Framingham, Massachusestts, will offer this hand-colored lithograph version of “The Duke’s Plan,“ published in 1859 by D. T. Valentine. Price: $950.
Barbara Loe of Cardtique, a specialist in Victorian ephemera, will showcase this charming trade card and information booklet for Wm. F. Nye’s Celebrated Crystal Sperm Sewing Machine Oil. Price: $900.
Reagan’s Rare Books will be offering this two-volume set of Gifford’s Life of Napoleon, sumptuously bound by Wallis of London and containing a Bonaparte signature mounted to the frontispiece. Price: $9,500.
